The Device Manager can be used to determine the Com Port name used for the RS232 communications.

Windows XP

Click the Start button on the Taskbar and choose Control Panel.

  1. If the view looks as below, choose Performance and Maintenance. Otherwise kip to point 3.
  2. Next choose System and skip to point 4.
  3. If the view looks as below, double click System:
  4. Next choose the Hardware Tab and then choose Device Manager:
  5. Click the plus sign next to Ports (COM & LPT):

    The name of the Com Port can now be seen, in this example it is COM5. This is the port that needs to be selected in the SharpEdit RS232 settings for the Machine.

Windows Vista

Click the Start button on the Taskbar and choose Control Panel.

  1. If the view looks as below, choose Hardware and Sound. Otherwise skip to point 3.
  2. Next choose Device Manager and skip to point 5.
  3. If the view looks as below, double click System.
  4. Next choose Device Manager:
  5. You may be shown a User Account Control Prompt. Click Continue:
  6. Click the plus sign next to Ports (COM & LPT):

    The name of the Com Port can now be seen, in this example it is COM5. This is the port that needs to be selected in the SharpEdit RS232 settings for the Machine.

Windows 7

Click the Start button on the Taskbar and choose Control Panel.

  1. Choose Hardware and Sound:
  2. Next choose Device Manager:
  3. Click the plus sign next to Ports (COM & LPT):
